My dad has been an avid smoking for the longest time ever, long than I can remember.

Yet he quit six months ago. Until today, he has not touch a single stick of cigarette. It's hard to believe but it was amazing how useful the tips and techniques are from people who have successfully quit. Last weekend after watching a Korean drama marathon for a straight 5 hours through the night, my vision became so blurry that I could hardly read anything within a 20 cm range.

I am always pride myself for having a relatively good eyesight but ever since that fateful night, I discovered that my vision has deteriorated. Needless to say, I paid an optician nearby my office a visit couple of days later after several failed attempts to restore the vision. :(

The optician scanned both my eyes and told me that my blurry eye condition is only temporary and I should regain my good vision after a few days of "rest" - no more drama marathon. The optician shared some eye care tips with me and so below is what I have to share along with some online research of my own.

Routine Vision Checkup


Get your eyes checked every year. Your eyecare professional can examine your eyes to make sure that there are no underlying problems that are developing. Even if you have good vision, it is important to get your eyes examined once a year. Doing this regularly will ensure that you will have healthy eyes as you get older.

Avoid Direct Exposure to Sunlight


It is very important to protect your eyes from direct sunlight, so make sure to wear sunglasses when you are outdoors or driving. The polarized sunglasses are best since they protect your sight by filtering out the UVA rays of the sun that can cause glaucoma and some other eye diseases.

Personal Hygiene


Just like you keep your face clean, make sure your eyes stay clean as well! It is easy for bacteria to enter the eyes, causing an infection. I have always gloated to myself that I never really had backaches - the serious ones that nag at you all day long.

Well, the day finally came as I woke up to one. It immediately dawned upon me that it was the planking exercise I did during the Yoga lesson the night before.

I went to the doctor, got some painkillers and muscle relaxant and of course a dose of advice from the doctor. Besides that, I did some research online as always. And so what I am about to share with you below is a combination of what I get professionally (from doctor) and a dose of proven tips I get online. Hope they are of some help to you.



Heat Therapy


Heat therapy is a good method to relieve back pain. Heat therapy (such as heating pads, hot bath, etc.) will not only relieve pain in the affected area, but also will provide some healing benefits. Applying heat directly to the affected area will provide instant relief, some people find alternating heat and ice therapy provides the maximum benefit.

Ladies - Take that Heels Off


If you like to wear high heels but experience back pain, the answer is simple; take the heels off and go with regular shoes. Standing on your toes is a very unnatural posture for your spine. Over time, this can cause damage to not only your muscles but also the discs in your back. Save the high heels for very special occasions.

Strengthen Your Abdominal Muscles

I have so far tried out the heat therapy, taking the heels off and flipping of mattress and it helps tremendously besides taking the painkillers given by the doctor. If your condition is serious enough, always seek help from a chiropractor.

Not sure if it is due to the recent work stress or food that I consumed, small patches of acne have begin to populate the once clear and smooth face of mine. :(

Choose apparel manufactured with natural fibers, and make sure the clothing is suitable for the weather conditions. Especially hot, cold or humid conditions can cause outbreaks in some people. Certain synthetic fibers can also worsen acne as a result of trapped heat. Being overheated can stress your body and worsen acne breakouts. You can reduce stress caused by temperature by wearing the right clothes.

Have You Been Drinking Water?


It's important to drink sufficient water throughout the day to help keep your skin clear. A minimum of eight cups of water are needed by the body each day, and it may need even more than that. Becoming dehydrated is problematic for your skin and other parts of your body. Dehydration makes acne problems worse because when the skin lacks moisture, dead skin cells remain on the skin. Avoid acne by using clean pillowcases each night. Take some time and ponder it. Just picture yourself resting your face on this every night. This can easily be avoided by simply replacing your dirty pillow case with a clean one before you go to bed.

Changing your linens on your bed can have amazing effects on your acne problems. As you are sleeping, these oils get onto your linens. The oil will go back to your skin the next time you sleep. To avoid this re-contamination process, launder your bedding often.

Teeth Whitening Product


Remove teeth whitening products from your regimen. If you experience acne breakouts in the mouth area, think about any treatments that are being used on your teeth. Whitening toothpaste, mouth wash and whitening strips sometimes aggravate acne. Treat this skin near your mouth very carefully, as it is sensitive and more prone to irritation and breakouts.

Garlic - What?

One of the most important steps you can take against acne is regular facial cleansing.

Never Do These Things


Do not tan or use sunbeds if you have acne. Direct exposure to sunlight or to a tanning light will worsen your acne. Sunbeds have UV light that has the same hazardous effects on acne like the sun does. It's simply not a good idea to tan if you have acne.

Avoid mixing any acne lotions. People think that mixing different acne treatments together will make them all work faster. It is not a good idea to use different treatments at once, since they often include strong medicines that may interact and harm the skin's surface.

Your hands contain dirt and oils, so whenever possible avoid touching your face. Break yourself of unconsciously bringing your hand to your face, as well. Pimples are due to an inflammation of your skin. It's usually caused by dirt that has become trapped inside your skin's pores.

Never ever pick them. Picking at your acne, pimples or blemishes only leads to more breakouts, because you promote the spreading of the bacteria. If you pick the same spot often, you can wind up breaking the skin and once the spot heals you will be left with a scar.

15 Ways I Use to Keep Anxiety in Check

A recent speech on the stage during a wedding dinner triggered the urge to write this post. I could not reject since it was a BFF type of friend. Did I freak out?

Nope. I did not break down during the speech. On the contrary, I was as calm as sea and was even rewarded with a few rounds of applauds after that. :)

I have always had uncontrollable anxiety whenever I am doing something that I am pretty nervous about. Anxiety ate me up when I was taking my driving test, job interview with a CEO of a company I used to work for, deliver a long speech on stage and so on.

Not anymore...

How did I do it? Besides doing extensive online studies, read some books and I even spoke with interviewed a few persons in US and Japan who have had similar problem. After trying a few of those methods, I finally overcame anxiety and read on to find out the techniques I used to to overcome it.

Positive Vibes


Eliminate negative vocabulary from your speech. By just using negative words, can bring you down and when you feel down, you are more likely to have an anxiety attack. Replace those negative words with words of encouragement or simple positive words. Use them in your conversations, as well as, your inner chatter.

Do not surround yourself with people who are going to stress you out. Rid yourself of negativity by hanging out with friends who have a positive outlook, rather than ones who are pessimistic or enjoy conflict. These types of people can make you stressed, which brings even more anxiety.

Positive interaction is a must when you are going through rough anxiety. Helping others is a great cure for anxiety. Find a neighbor or a friend who needs a helping hand, and watch it work wonders for how you feel. There is no better medicine than helping other people in times of need.

Say NO to Soda


Soda is one of the worst things that you can drink during the course of the day and you should avoid this beverage at all costs. Soda contains a lot of sugar and caffeine that can exacerbate your mood and dehydrate your body of essential nutrients, causing more tension and anxiety.

Stay BUSY


A great way to keep your anxiety under control is by staying busy. With inactivity, your mind resorts to dwelling on negative issues or worries you may have. Just basic things, such as cleaning the home or washing your car can really help.

Social anxiety may affect the way its sufferers live and keep them from leaving their homes. One way to overcome this is by finding activities you enjoy, and can share with other people. When you want to spend time with others, you can enjoy your activities with them.

If you find yourself feeling overly anxious, get outside and get some exercise. Exercise has many benefits for your whole body, and a good workout can really clear your mind and help improve your mood. You do not have to head to the gym or the pool, if you do not want to. Just taking a walk can help.

This is by far the most effective for most people I know.

Sort OUT Your Stress


Make some time to list out everything that contributes to your stress. Separate the things you are able to change from those you aren't. Change what you can and try to stop concerning yourself with the things you cannot control.

Voice it OUT


Talk about your feelings of anxiety with a sympathetic and trustworthy listener. Conversing with someone supportive can help your bad thoughts go away. It's even better if you find a support system, as they can give you tips on how you can deal with anxiety.

Do Not Think Too Far Ahead


To help you cope with anxiety, stop thinking about future events that haven't occurred yet. When you think about something that hasn't happened, there is no way for you to know how it will turn out. Oftentimes, people will think negatively when they look into the future, and this causes unnecessary worry. So either only deal with the present, or change your thoughts about the future to more positive ones.

Say NO


Learn to say no. Overextending yourself can quickly drain your reserves and leave your mind racing as you try to live up to your commitments. Your refusal to put more on your plate than you can manage may cause disappointment for someone, but your mental health and well-being are most important.

Journal it DOWN


Keep an anxiety journal. There are people who have pent up stress in their minds and cannot release it. Learn how to express yourself and unload your thought into a journal, rather than letting it build up.

BREATHE


Learn to breathe deeply from your diaphragm. When you take deep, regular breaths from your diaphragm, you will increase your calming feelings and begin to relax. Focus on breathing from your midsection, near your belly button. The stomach should extend outwards, if the breath is coming from the right area.

Your breathing can be disrupted by an anxiety attack, so by trying to control your breathing, you may be able to relax. Softly count and breathe, while you let relaxation take over your body. For optimum results, try and find a nice quiet place away from others to practice this method of breathing.

LAUGH


Find some reasons to laugh at the world. You can watch a funny movie or television show and this will also take your mind off of any worries you might have to deal with. So find a comedy on the television, sit back, and do not forget to let out those laughs.

Play Soothing Music


Have you ever enjoyed listening to music and singing out loud? If you suffer from an anxiety attack, try playing your absolute favorite music and singing it as loud as you can. This is very helpful, and it will put a smile on your face. Try this next time during an anxiety attack.

You Are NOT Alone


Always keep in mind that you are not the only one struggling with anxiety. Just have a look at all the supplements available in your local pharmacy or health food store, to realize that millions of people have the same problem. The most important things is to remember that you are not by yourself and anxiety is a treatable condition.

Get Some Probiotics 


When people are battling anxiety, depression or panic attacks, they often have problems with their stomach or intestines from the stress. A good way to help your digestive system when you have anxiety is to add some probiotics to your diet or a digestive enzyme supplement. These methods help you get to the root of your anxiety, and keep releasing it until you are completely relaxed. Seek Professional Help


If you frequently suffer from attacks of anxiety, don't suffer in silence. See a doctor or therapist who can help you to overcome the anxiety before it turns into other problems, such as panic attacks or generalized anxiety disorder. There are therapies and medications that will help you to overcome anxiety problems.

Seeking professional should ONLY be taken as a last resort if you have tried and failed the above techniques.

After 7 long year, hubby and I have finally decided to let go of our current car and get a another one.

And since we have very little experience when it comes to shopping for car, I decided to ask around and as always, did a bit of 'homework' online to see how to best shop for a car.

Below are some smart tips that I have compiled and I hope it would be useful for those of you seeking to getting another car.

Always Do Your Homework Online First


When you want to buy a car, do your research online. You can find out about all the makes and models available on the car brand's website. You can even find the dealer's site and peruse the cars on the lot. Some dealers even offer specials through their site, so check those out too.

Do a little research before you enter the showroom. When you walk into a showroom, sticker prices are usually listed right on the cars. It is important to understand that all dealerships have some wiggle room from these prices. If you do your research online first, you can gain an understanding of how much the car you want is selling for you in your area. This will help you to understand how much room there is to negotiate down from sticker price, so that you get the deal you are really looking for.




Get Familiar with Upsells


Watch out for the upsells in the car sale office. When talking to the sales agent, you will always be offered things like an extended warranty, interior protection, additional insurance and other such add-on.

Make sure that you understand these well before making a decision to purchase them. Most of these offers are NOT worth the money you will spend, and you're better off saving each month in the event that you need a repair or your interior gets a stain.
